By the 1980s, Chessie had pulled all of C&O’s U25Bs out of service and stored them in Clifton Forge, Virginia. Here, parked beside the Clifton Forge Locomotive Shops, a string of nearly thirty rests in silence, amid the eastbound yard of export coal waiting to be moved to Newport News. Once upon a time this fleet had been Alleghany Mountain power, but now all are replaced by the more efficient SD35s and SD40s.
