Remarks & Notes
Seaboard Air Line train No. 9, "The Palmland" is working the passenger station at Raleigh, NC on February 2, 1966. Running about 8 hours late, it is now about 2:15pm in the afternoon and Seaboard, along with all railroads in the Mid-South and Mid-Atlantic states is recovering from the "Blizzard of 1966" which moved up the East coast between January 27th and January 31st with gale force winds, dumping snow measured in feet, and dropping temperatures to single digits in many places. SDP35's 1100 and 1101 would normally be handling this leg of "The Palmland" today, but SDP35 1114 was added in Richmond and is being transferred to Hamlet to balance power due to SAL No. 5 being annulled earlier in the day due to the weather conditions. The fireman is quickly cleaning the windshield before the train heads south to warmer temperatures.
