Remarks & Notes
Forty years after delivery of the last GE U26C class 34 diesels to the South African Railways (SAR) in 1973, some of these veterans continue to survive in their original SAR red livery with yellow striping. One of these is 34-120, based at Millsite depot in Krugersdorp, seen here leading three more 34's as they grind their way up the 1 in 40 grade out of the Magaliesburg valley with a westbound train of loaded fuel tankers for Botswana. The train is entering Perry's Curve, a location named after the late Roger Perry, who emigrated to South Africa from the USA in the days of steam and who was one of the earliest members of the Railway Society of Southern Africa (RSSA).

The red & whisker livery of the South African Railways / Suid Afrikaanse Spoorwee collection. Getting harder to find examples of this fantastic and much loved livery still in service!
