Remarks & Notes |
In this evening shot Soo 4227 and Milwaukee 192 have arrived at Trout Lake on train 12 out of Sault Ste. Marie. The units have cut off their train east of the Highway M-123 crossing and threaded there way through the yard and started around the wye where they are waiting for the Marquette-Trout Lake job to arrive with westbound freight for them. Off to the right you can see the ramshackle Soo section Foreman's house. The Soo supplied company housing to section foremen in a number of Upper Michigan towns that I was familiar with, although most of them had fallen into disrepair and were not in use by the early 70's. By this time the one in Trout Lake had seen better days and was home to a small army of cats that were none to friendly. While I called Trout Lake home and spent countless hours shooting the "local" scene I had few encounters with other railfans in my home area and this fellow wandering back to his car after getting a shot of 4227 was one of the few times I seen another photographer in the area. I had plenty of time to grab an apple off the trees on either side of 4227 before the Marquette job arrived on this late summer evening. |
