That's a wrap folks! After 40 years of service for the Union Pacific Railroad, engineer R.E. Helling stands by his last locomotive, just after climbing off the unit for the last time. Mr. Helling started his career with the UP in Denver in 1973 before moving to Salina, Kansas. He has seen all the changes that have taken place across the Kansas Pacific, including surviving the decline and no traffic years across the KP. The KP is thriving again with train numbers approaching double digits on some days. From here, Mr. Helling will head to the yard office and enter his time on the computer one final time, before riding off into the sunset of retirement...truly the end of an era on the KP.
