Tourists and passengers at S. Bento's Station hall. Nominated one of the 16 most beautiful trainstations in the world by a north american travel magazin, part of Portugal's history, is shown at the 20.000"azulejos"(tiles), which took 11 years to be designed and painted by Jorge Colaço. There are: The Arcos de Valdevez Knights Tournement (supposed to have occured in 1140), the presentation of Egas Moniz and his children to Castilla and Leon's King Afonso VII (12th Century), the Entry at Oporto of John I and D. Filipa de Lencastre (1387), and the Conquest of Ceuta by Infante D. Henrique (1415) amongs other events. The final project, designed by architect José Marques da Silva, was approved in 1900 by Portugal's last King D. Carlos and the inauguration took place in 1916.
