Remarks & Notes
Northern Central #17, "York" (the newest steam locomotive in America), passes a farm at Larue, PA, on its southbound return from Hanover Junction to New Freedom, Pennsylvania. The Northern Central Railway began excursion operations in June on this former Pennsy doubletrack mainline, which was originally built as the Northern Central, second oldest railroad to the Baltimore & Ohio. The old second main is now a recreational trail, known as the Heritage Rail Trail County Park. This route was used by President Lincoln on his way to deliver the Gettysburg Address.
