| After its counterpart encountered engine failure earlier in the day prompting a power swap between NS 380 and a northbound coal drag to the north, NS 381 was placed in the siding at Nitro until crew availability and mainline track authority permitted it to continue onward. Single track dispatching and limited crews make logistical planning difficult on NS's often overlooked, West Virginia Secondary line bridging the Kanawha Valley to the NS mainline in Columbus. The train would lay over in Nitro for close to 24 hours before continuing north toward Columbus. |
