Remarks & Notes
In late 1970, the Clinchfield decided that additional switchers in Erwin and Kingsport were needed to help reclassify trains that entered the major yards there. However, rather than purchase new from EMD, they elected to purchase 5 used NW2's from Jacksonville Terminal and Apalachicola Northern. 1 switcher came from Jacksonville Terminal and the other 4 from Apalachicola Northern, with 360 being one from Apalachicola Northern. Still shown in its blue and white from its former owner, these units received the nickname from railroad employees "Blue Birds". This unit was sold to Clinchfield Coal Company in 1983 after the merger was complete. 35mm slide from my collection, photographer unknown.
