Back in May Union Pacific and NS agreed to divert a pair of stack trains running between Global 4 and Kansas City from the Transcon to a new routing via Springfield, IL and the former Alton and Wabash mainlines. Here the first westbound train, #071, slows for a crew change at Hazel Dell. Unfortunately, the trial runs ended almost as soon as they began due to flooding at Hannibal, MO and Naples, IL on the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers which shutdown operations on NS' Springfield/Hannibal District.
