Remarks & Notes
A southbound coal train emerges from one of the many tunnels on the Clinchfield's famous Blue Ridge Loops with a U36C leading. These units were purchased to handle unit coal trains to southern power plants after EMD could not meet the deadline to deliver new power when the Clinchfield needed. In 1977, all 7 of the U36C's were traded to SCL for an equal amount of SD45's. 35mm slide from my collection, photo by David Callahan.
