Remarks & Notes
Sacramento, California's, light rail system (Sacramento Regional Transit District) began operations on March 12, 1987. Three months after operations began, Siemens-Duewag U2A Light rail vehicle 118 is seen on the Gold Line heading downtown. When first opened, the Gold Line was 18.3 miles long, but later expansions - including to the city's Amtrak station - have increased the number of stations to 27 and the entire system (now three lines) has 48 stations and 38.6 miles of track. Sacramento is the capitol of California, and the RT (as their transit system is known) is the eleventh busiest light rail system in the United States.
