They Live! Not one, but two old ALCO's have escaped the scrapper's torch in a remote section of Eastern Kentucky. Located in Martin County, KY. these were found sitting near the head of NS's Wolf Creek Branch, at Pevler. Mine here was built in 1973, and acquired by Occidental Petroleum in 1982, hence both these shifters still adorned with Island Creek Coal Company (a subsidiary of OP). Days could be numbered, as the quick collapse of the coal market may render them expendable. Note the red flag still being flown...
