Santa Fe's SD-40-2 5086 gets an assist from three Kodachrome painted units, two GEs and an EMD, lifting hotshot Q train KCEP up the 3% north side of Raton Pass at Wootton, less than a mile from the New Mexico state line and summit Raton Tunnel -- the highest point on the AT&SF, 7,588-ft. Fisher Peak is in the background as the train was running from Kansas City to El Paso on Dec. 2, 1989. There are no freight trains on the route today.
