Remarks & Notes
This heritage special train near Paekakariki is marking exactly 150 years of the opening of first public railway in New Zealand. Ja 1271 was built at Hillside, Dunedin c. 1955-56, among the very last few locomotives built in New Zealand. The train has just passed through the last tunnel on the 2% grade descent from Pukerua Bay.
