Remarks & Notes

A pair of C&O GP9s works the west end of the yard at Shelby, KY--the coalfield terminal a few miles south of Pikeville. The metal switchman's shanty appears to have a good supply of block coal to ward off the approaching winter chill. It can get mighty cold down in the hollows of the Appalachians.
