Silhouetted against the rising sun, an unknown JS 2-8-2 leads a loaded coal train from Erjing Mine to South Station, where it will be transferred to the National Railway. Sandaoling Coal Mine Railway is actually composed of two mine systems: the well known open cast pit mine and a surface railroad line leading to two deep mines. These two massive underground mines are appropriately named Yijing and Erjing (Mine One, and Mine Two) and generate at least 4 trains per day. Like the rest of the mining activity at Sandaoling, these are served exclusively by steam in 2014!!
