The afternoon light is barely breaking through the clouds overhead as the Johannesburg to Port Elizabeth "Algoa" heads south through Wolwehoek station on the Free State main line, led by 6E1 E1659 in Shosholoza Meyl livery. Twice a week, this train has a "Premier Classe" section added to the normal Tourist and Economy accommodation. The Premier Classe cars are usually at the rear of the train, but today are up front, clearly visible behind the locomotives in their purple livery.
