With the sale finalized, former DM&E trackage from Tracy, MN to points past Rapid City, SD, will become the Rapid City, Pierre & Eastern. RCP&E will take over on June 1st. In an agreement, RCP&E will also get over 50 former IC&E units. With this influx of power moving west, 27 of these blue and yellow engines were spotted in and around Tracy on the evening of May 30th. The final day of operations before the June 1st deadline. Eight SD40 models head up train 2471-30 north of the small town of Florence, MN. Due to ownership changes, the train will make it as far as their siding there and will be tied down. The next time this train moves, it could very well be under the RCP&E name. Thus ending the Dakota Minnesota and Eastern as we know it.
