On February 8, 2005, the dirt train power assigned to Helper, Utah, went west to Kyune on the Price River grade up Soldier Summit to pick up a bad order hopper car set out there. After fetching the car, the 5390 went into Kyune’s center siding to clear for traffic. Amtrak No. 6 was due, and track 1 was occupied by a westbound BNSF freight. After letting Amtrak past, Rio Grande No. 5390 pops out into winter sunshine at the Nolan Tunnels eastbound following on Amtrak’s block, as the BNSF climbs the grade through the other bore.
