| The rail inspection train from the DB is not a train that you can see everyday. I was lucky enough to have it in front of my camera near the station of Haltingen. The old line between Between Freiburg and Basel was closed during several months for maintenance. The day before the line reopened, this special train was checking the track. Today, all the fast passenger trains are running through the new Katzenberg tunnel. Only freight trains and local passenger trains are still running on the old line. The Katzenberg tunnel stretches 9,385m in length and is the longest two-tube tunnel and third longest tunnel in Germany, as of 2012. It was considered as one of the most advanced railway projects in Europe when it commenced in August 2003. |
