Remarks & Notes
A port transfer shunt from Wiri to port passes through Orakei. The railway crosses the Orakei Basin which is an old crater, one of over 50 volcanoes dotting the Auckland urban area. The locomotives are painted in MAXX livery though 1226 was never leased for working the commuter trains (now operated by electric units.)

Trains on 3' 6" (1.067m) track from Whangarei to Bluff with virtually heritage rebuilt EMD and GE locomotives still the mainstay power. The network was privatized in 1990's and operated by Toll until 2008 when state owned KiwiRail was established.
