A Milwaukee freight consisting of a GP9/GP35/U25B/U30B/U28B quintet rolls northbound across a river near McKenna, WA en route from Portland, OR to Tacoma. After the BN merger, Milwaukee Road gained significant traffic from the Portland gateway, but had to use a mixture of BN trackage rights and what were essentially logging branches to get their trains over the road. Their operating costs were significantly higher than BN or UP in this corridor.
