Remarks & Notes
The LIRR's Harsco Spreader dubbed "Darth Vader" makes its official mainline run in the snow, mainly for the media to show the tax payer that their $1.5 million investment isn't rusting to the rails. It has been used for ballast spreading, though tonight it will plow the rails clear between Ronkonkoma and Riverhead, eventually ending up in Montauk later in the evening. Two NYAR GP38-2s are providing 4,000 HP to get this beast over the road.

Pictures of things often unseen in the world of railroading. Interesting equipment, operations, and people that help the railroad go around.
