On a cold, January night in Norfolk Southern's Norton Yard, NS 9869 idles beside the yard office as it awaits its duties the following morning. Norton Yard used to be home to three railroads, two of which are inspiration for Norfolk Southern's Heritage schemes: the Interstate and the Norfolk and Western, with the third being the L&N.
