All three surviving G5s', yes I said three, ran on Long Island. Many know about #5741, which sits inside the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania beautifully restored cosmetically. But, on August 29, 1955, only two months away before steam ended on the Long Island Railroad, #5741 was out in Long Island for unknown reasons. So what about the other two? LIRR G5s' #35 and #39 also survive. The #39 however, is now in a period of fundraising to be restored to operating condition to run across the street from #5741, on the Strasburg Railroad. Under the agreement, the SRC has pledged $1 million to the funraising, and the Railroad Museum of Long Island (The owner of #39) must raise the other million dollars.
