As a celebration of 150 Years of Railways in Queensland, Queensland Rail and the Queensland Government ran a steam train from Roma Street, Brisbane, all the way up the North Coast to Cairns and inland to Mareeba and return, a round trip of some 4,500km. Due to Cyclone Marcia, the timetable for the train had to be put back by one day, however all were still in good spirits as the special train chugs out of Caboolture, it's final stop before the end of the journey to Brisbane. BB18 1/4 #1089 was supposed to double head the journey with 1079 from Townsville to Brisbane, after being road hauled from Ipswich to Townsville after an overhaul, however due to problems with 1089, it failed on arrival in to Mackay and was later road hauled back to Brisbane. As the years go by, more and more steam engines are being restored and operating therefore the old expression "steam is dead" is nothing but a false expression. Steam is strong and still ruling the rails.
