Remarks & Notes
Southern Appalachia District engineer Buddy Mumpower is bringing the power into the engine facility at Appalachia with the westbound leg of a Yuma Turn. This is a cab hop, since trains with empty hoppers would normally go to the other side of the yard. This site would be vacated in September 1965 to make way for construction of the Westmoreland Coal Company Transloader (to be located in the background). The transloader itself closed in 1995, and was razed in 2014. The 30-acre site is now vacant.
