In a preview of the FL/SS/CSX future, ACL closed its Montgomery yard in the 1960s, and moved into affiliate L&N's S&NA yard a few hundreds yards to the north. The power in the engine facility on this bright fall day - U36Bs on SCL, old geeps on L&N - might give the impression that SCL had the bigger operation in these parts. In reality, L&N's line through Montgomery was a segment of their mainline between Cincinnati and New Orleans, while SCL operated two dead-end secondary lines - one ex-ACL and one ex-SAL.
