Remarks & Notes
DMIR 166, a Phase IV SD9, and the last high nose SD9 to operate on the Missabe joins with SD18 No. 181 to compare notes at Proctor, Minn. in July 1976. Note the subtle difference between the units, basically the higher rear hood in the radiator area on No. 181. DMIR 166 came to DMIR in 1959, No. 181 in 1960. They operated initially with the last of the Yellowstones and other steam power briefly. !66 survived until the last units purchased by Missabe, SD40-3s were purchased in 1996. It now operates on the Columbia Basin Railway out of Warden, WA albeit with a chopped nose.
