A rare treat these days on Stevens Pass, BNSF 5000 lead a Spokane-Everett manifest up the grade to the east portal of the Cascade Tunnel at Berne, WA. Typical there will be no more than one manifest in each direction daily on this line, with most traffic being intermodal, stack, vehicle, empty oil, coal or grain trains. The line can handle about 20-24 trains a day and traffic varies with the day of the week. The Amtrak Empire Builder also operates through here in early am and early evening.
