Just north of Duluth at Munger is where CN's former DW&P (Rainy Sub) crosses over their ex-DM&IR track (Missabe Sub). For years I have tried to capture an engine-over-engine shot here but given this is mainline track and trains are always moving at speed that quest has proven nearly impossible. Finally luck with with me when a northbound rail train on the DW&P crossed over an empty frac sand covered hopper train that was being pulled back to Proctor after its single unit died just north of here. It was interesting that both trains were powered by single ex-C&NW C40-8s. I suspect the hopper train was headed to Cliffs Erie (former Erie Mining/LTV) for storage.
