Remarks & Notes
The heritage of Portland & Western Railroad GP9 1803 is fairly obvious from the lighting arrangement on the engine's nose. Built by EMD in January 1957 as Southern Pacific GP9 5738, the engine was renumbered SP 3579 in 1965. Rebuilt to a GP9E in June 1976, the engine also received its third number: SP 3790. The SP retired 3790 in March 1987, and promptly sold it to the Louisiana & Delta, as their 1752, the same month. In 1994 the LDRR sold it to the Willamette & Pacific Railroad, sending it back west, where it became WPRR 1803 before the WPRR became the Portland & Western. This venerable old engine was found in McMinnville, Oregon, on August 26th, 2015.
