Remarks & Notes

While a set of Conrail power waits to go to the engine terminal, a pair of ex-Reading cabooses enters relatively new territory as they roll into Shomo yard, the former PRR/PC interchange with the N&W in Hagerstown, Maryland on Conrail’s second birthday. Although the Reading went to Hagerstown, its trains terminated in the Western Maryland yard a mile away from here. The PRR/N&W yard has a dual identity. While the N&W knew it as Vardo yard, the Pennsy always referred to the yard as Shomo.
