BNSF 1434 switches at the west end of Ayer yard at sunset along the Snake River. The train makes a turn from Pasco, WA to Ayer to interchange traffic with WATCO's Great Northwest Railway which handles business to/from Lewiston, ID and former Camas Prairie Railroad trackage. BNSF exercises trackage rights on UP to reach Ayer, thus the UP poles and mile post.
Photos showing the railroad pole lines. The pole line used four basic electrical circuits - telegraph, telephone, signaling, and power. Modern technologies of fiber optics, microwave, radio, satellite, and computers have been replacing the pole lines.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
