Highball for Sumpter. Less than an hour after sunrise, a Sumpter Valley mixed train heads west at Hawley Spur, on a pleasant fall day. Backlit situations can be difficult for many photographers, especially those who are using automatic camera settings. This situation really calls for manual exposure, and selecting the right camera position for maximum effect. I love the sunbeams between the cars in this shot, as well as the glow on the rails of the Hawley Spur.
Landscape photography is difficult due to the challenge of combining good light and good scenery. Good railroad photography enters another level of complexity since it requires the first two while there is a train in view.
