Remarks & Notes
The A&W heads into Sanford for a morning of switching. The A&W is an "original" shortline being chartered in the late 1890s to run about 25 miles from Sanford to Lillington NC. In the modern era, most of this was abandoned up to an industrial spur outside of town while taking over a few miles of former Atlantic & Yadkin track to the interchange with the original NS at Cumnock. The G&W's A&W now also provides switching via trackage rights over several miles of the old NS line in central NC.
