A westbound coal train led by Burlington Northern SD70MAC No. 9590 eases by a wreck site at Lakeside, Nebraska on May 19, 2006. The derailment happened two days earlier, when an eastbound BNSF coal train led by No. 8814 (on left) ran an intermediate signal with a red aspect and plowed into the rear of another coal load. The trailing locomotive of the train, along with a rear DPU on the train hit, were also damaged, along with seven hoppers that also derailed and were destroyed. Those aluminum hoppers don’t hold up very well to that kind of abuse!
