On 1st of june, two weeks from now, the world's longest railway tunnel, the 57 kilometer long Gotthard Base Tunnel (GBT) through the Alps from Biasca to Erstfeld will be officially inaugurated. We have a look onto the south portal near Pollegio (south of Biasca) down from the mountain, about 420 meter above the valley floor. While a ICN tilt train of the SBB is disappearing in the west bore, a ETR 610 highspeed tilting train of Trenitalia is running on the present Gotthard mountain line southward from Zürich to Milan. With the ICN, the procedures for the opening ceremony were tested and practised this day.
