Remarks & Notes
CNW 4480 is in the process of being kitbashed from CNW 1659, a May 1953 GP7 into a chopped nose GP7R, at Oelwein, IA. Oelwein was the Chicago Great Western's main locomotive shop, acquired by CNW in the July 1968 merger. At this time CNW was actively rebuilding old Geeps, and keeping F units and other power maintained here. They were also operating through freights thorugh Oelwein between Kansas City and St. Paul. Most of these operations diminished after the acquisition of the Rock Island Spine Line in the early 1980s.
