Remarks & Notes
A southbound unit coal train rattles the windows of the old Toe River Free Will Baptist Church at Huntdale, NC. This is the former Clinchfield Railroad main line, but since CSX, it's been the BR, or Blue Ridge Subdivision. While some 20 to 25 trains a day were common at the time of this shot, today it's maybe two every 24 hours. The precipitous fall of the coal industry in central Appalachia has been devastating to its railroads, not to mention the residents of the region.
