CSX Z345-08 (NS 733) drag 145 empty cars up the mountain on the old CSX main from the NS connection track. This was the first full winter season that the Scherer coal buckets gain additional 25 cars in length and had to have a second DPU on the rear for the extra horsepower for speed. During the mid-fall season of 2013 NS with the help of BNSF ran a few test coal bucket to see if running the tonnage at a good rate of speed would cut the travel time down which would also cut the cost of crews and fuel consumption in half, instead of running a full 120 car train with two head motors, and a single DPU on the rear in previous years, the train double it length by 25 more cars, and a extra DPU was added on the rear. The test was a success, and came at the right time as the demand of coal for the 4th quarter of the 2013, and first quarter of the 2014 winter season was going to be the coldest on record in decades.
