”We’ve got a little problem here!”

When the Southern Railway’s excursions from Alexandria, Virginia reached their destination in Charlottesville, the normal procedure was to unload the passengers at Southern’s passenger station, where they were free to explore local attractions for a few hours. The steam locomotive would then be taken to the C&O turntable to be turned and readied for the return trip. On this day, there was a small problem when 2839 ended up with the rear two driver pairs, and possibly the trailing truck, off the rails when it entered the turntable. Here the Southern Steam crew examines the situation before taking any corrective action.
