April 8, 1990: At Roseville, CA, a conductor on this eastbound Southern Pacific freight walks to the head end as the brake test is being completed on his train. Shortly, these big SD45Rs will power up for the climb up the Sierras and Donner Pass---route of the nation's first transcontinental railroad, first opened as a through route in 1869.
