A westbound Santa Fe freight passes the small yard in Fullerton, California, in February 1974. Santa Fe kept local switchers here, mainly Alco S-2 and S-4 diesels, but these days the locals originate out of La Mirada, about 6 miles to the west. And, of course, along with the engine storage spur, just about everything else he is gone now, too - The packing house on the north side of the mainline, the caboose, the phone poles, and the Santa Fe Railway itself (to say nothing of U36C 8710, SD45-2 5625 and U36C 8713). But the young railfan in the foreground, Robert Tinkham, is still around, still photographing trains, and still my friend. Not everything changes...
