Four years ago yesterday, the Oregon Rail Heritage Center opened up in Portland, Oregon, officially giving the public an legal interactive setup to view the city's three steam engines in one location. In remembering this great accomplishment, I recall the former home the three also left four years ago: the Brooklyn Roundhouse. I made constant visits to the once-bustling Southern Pacific structure with my parents and grandmother ever since I was three, enjoying my visit each and every time. Though the new facility will remain to be a tourist destination on every railfan's list, the Brooklyn Roundhouse will still remain home for the 4449, 700, and 197 in my mind.
