| In the high Sierras on the west slope of Donner Pass, a westbound manifest swings under the signal bridge at Yuba Gap. Note the signal hut raised above ground level to allow easier access during deep winter snows. The rocky ledge in the background is where the City of San Francisco became stalled by a heavy snow storm in 1952. It was three days before the passengers were rescued and six before the train itself was freed. |
