Remarks & Notes
When the Union Pacific finally retired the D&RGW SD40T-2 #5371 in late February 2008 it was the end of an era for Rio Grande fans. There was a period of more or less mixed motive power assignments on the 5371’s old job, the LDP45 Dirt Train out of Helper, Utah. Before too long UP SD60M’s took over the job and they held down this job for several years until they too, were replaced by UP’s rebuilt SD40-2’s now called SD40N’s. Here is SD60M #2158 hustling east between Wash and Mounds on the Green River Sub. in eastern Utah with the Dirt Train.

The American west is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful regions in the country. Rails rolling through wide open spaces.
