Deep in the Deschutes River canyon, a northbound Oregon Trunk manifest is at an iconic photo location, Twin Bridges, a few miles north of Sherars Bridge. Two bridges are spliced by a tunnel as the railroad cuts across a sharp reverse bend in the river. In another 44 miles the train, which almost certainly originated in Barstow, California, will cross the Columbia River into Wishram, Washington, recrew and turn either west to Vancouver, Washington or east to Pasco.
The Oregon Trunk, the route most well known for the Deschutes Railroad War, still sees BNSF-and at times detouring UP-traffic today. This album covers all images taken along the line between Celilo and Chemult, Oregon.
