Remarks & Notes
EMD’s GP39 was a limited-production model, only penetrating the rosters of three railroads. Industrial Kennecott Copper bought one, shortline Atlanta & St. Andrews Bay purchased two, and Class 1 Chesapeake & Ohio took delivery of twenty of the 2300 horsepower units. Here C&O “class unit” 3900 moves around the yard at Handley, West Virginia. The unit was later converted to CSX road slug 2355.
